Chennai: Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji today said people in Chennai, Chengalpet, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts can pay their power bills late due to floods.

‘They can take up to 15 days beyond the last date to pay electricity bills,’ he said after inspecting flood impact at power stations in the city.

Senthil Balaji on Thursday said the electricity board has stocked 1.32 lakh electric poles and 16,500-km-long power conductors and other infrastructure to meet the demand.

He said the department had 7,000 transformers, 1,071 transformer structures, one lakh ‘V’ cross arms, 6,000 earth pipes, 75,000 LT cross arms, eight lakh LT and HT insulators, 1,270 pillar boxes, 65km long HT cables and 1,000km long LT cables.

He also said that the State government has taken steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Chennai and other districts in the State during the monsoon season.
