Chennai: The Enforcement Directorate has again summoned AMMK supremo TTV Dhinakaran for recording his statement on 22 April in connection with the alleged attempt to bribe an Election Commission official.

He was grilled and his statement was recorded for the first time by the federal agency here for about 8 hours on 12 April.

The agency’s notice and investigation against the 58-year-old politician came after the Enforcement Directorate recently arrested jailed ‘conman’ and another accused in this case, Sukesh Chandrashekhar.

Exiting the ED office in New Delhi on 12 April night, Dhinakaran told reporters that he cooperated with the agency by replying to their questions and was ready for further investigation, if needed.

The case started in 2017 when Sukesh was arrested by Delhi Police’s Crime Branch for allegedly arranging a deal with Dhinakaran, who was a member of the AIADMK at the time.

Sukesh had assured Dhinakaran that if he paid Rs 50 crore, he would get the AIADMK’s two-leaf symbol for his faction. Dhinakaran later co-founded the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam with his aunt VK Sasikala and currently serves as its general secretary.

The Enforcement Directorate has again summoned AMMK supremo TTV Dhinakaran for recording his statement on 22 April in connection with the alleged attempt to bribe an Election Commission official.
