Chennai: Tamilnadu Governor R N Ravi is likely to send Tamilnadu Assembly’s Bill seeking exemption from NEET to the President of India for his assent.
Quoting sources, reports said the Governor has decided to send the Bill to the Centre, following repeated requests and demands from the DMK government in the State.
It is to be noted that Chief Minister M K Stalin and the elected representatives of the ruling DMK and its allies on Thursday boycotted Ravi’s scheduled events, the unveiling of poet Subramaniya Bharati’s statue and an ‘At Home’ reception to mark the Tamil New Year held at Raj Bhavan.
There was ‘no positive assurance’ from the governor to a two-member ministerial delegation that requested him to forward the anti-NEET Bill readopted by the legislative assembly in February to the Union government for Presidential assent, the government said.
The main opposition, the AIADMK termed the boycott a ‘wrong move’ of the government. The BJP too slammed the State government.
Stalin expressed his dismay over the impasse on NEET Bill to Governor Ravi and urged him to swiftly send the Bill to the Centre for his assent.
Stalin in a letter to the Governor on Thursday said, ‘You may recall that during our last meeting, you have assured us that this process will be expedited, but I am pained to note that the Bill is yet to be transmitted to the Government of India.’
‘As you may be aware, the admission process for the medical courses for the next academic year is to commence shortly and there is tremendous anxiety and uncertainty among the aspiring students and their parents in the State. Given this situation, I am sure that you would appreciate our sense of disappointment and dismay at this juncture over the impasse,’ he added.
DMK mouthpiece Murasoli on Saturday criticised Ravi for delaying granting his assent to the NEET Exemption Bill and forwarding it to the President. In an editorial piece, Murasoli accused the Governor of unnecessarily indulging in politics, and alleged he is being misled on the Bill.
