In a significant development ahead of the upcoming general elections, talks have commenced between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) regarding a potential alliance. Senior AIADMK leader and former minister S P Velumani, along with other party members, held discussions with DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakant and her brother L K Sudhish to explore the possibility of collaboration for the parliamentary polls.
Following the meeting, Velumani announced that both parties have agreed to form panels to further deliberate on the alliance. He stated, “As per the direction of Leader of Opposition and AIADMK general secretary (EPS), we called on DMDK leaders Premalatha Vijayakanth and Sudhish. It was a courtesy meeting. A panel would be formed from either side to talk about the alliance.” The meeting, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, signifies the beginning of negotiations between the two political entities.
However, Velumani refrained from confirming whether the alliance has been finalized, choosing instead to indicate that further discussions are required. When questioned by journalists, he stated, “We came and met them in person to take forward the talks.” This cautious approach suggests that both parties are carefully considering the terms and conditions of any potential alliance before reaching a definitive agreement.
As of now, Poovai Jaganmoorthy’s Puthiya Bharatham is the only party to have confirmed an alliance with the AIADMK, adding an element of intrigue to the ongoing negotiations with the DMDK.
