Shortly after engaging in seat-sharing discussions with a BJP delegation, TTV Dhinakaran, the general secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), asserted that there is no compromise on their party symbol, the ‘Cooker’, and affirmed their intention to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls under the same emblem.
Expressing unwavering confidence in securing the ‘Cooker’ symbol once again for the upcoming elections, the former MP emphasized, “We (AMMK) have applied for the cooker symbol at the Election Commission of India. There is no coercion or threat regarding the cooker symbol. We hope that we will get the Cooker symbol. We will never contest in any other symbol, especially Lotus.”
Dhinakaran’s remarks come amidst speculation and discussions regarding the allocation of symbols for the impending electoral contest.
In a related development, TTV Dhinakaran also welcomed the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), asserting that it is not aimed at depriving people of citizenship but rather at providing refuge to those in need. He criticized certain parties for misleading the public on the intentions and implications of the CAA, emphasizing the humanitarian aspect of the legislation.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and coordinator of the AIADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Committee, O Panneerselvam, engaged in discussions with the BJP delegation in Guindy during the early hours of Wednesday. Addressing reporters afterward, Panneerselvam reiterated his faction’s intention to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls under the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol.
Asserting his legitimacy as the coordinator of AIADMK, Panneerselvam expressed optimism regarding the Election Commission of India’s recognition of his faction and their subsequent allocation of the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol.
