Tiruchy witnessed tense moments during a district DMK working committee meeting on Sunday as demands were made for MDMK candidate Durai Vaiko to contest in the DMK symbol, triggering emotional responses from the candidate.

The meeting, held at Kalaignar Arivalayam and attended by prominent ministers KN Nehru, S Regupathy, and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, saw heated discussions when the Tiruchy Central district DMK Secretary, K Vairamani, advocated for Durai Vaiko to contest on the DMK symbol of Rising Sun. Vairamani argued that aligning with the DMK symbol would secure an easy victory for Vaiko.

However, Vaiko, emotionally refuted the demand, asserting his commitment to contesting only on the MDMK party symbol. He reminded the gathering of his father’s legacy within the DMK and the founding of MDMK, emphasizing the hard work and dedication of party cadres towards achieving victory for the alliance.

Expressing his unwavering stance, Durai Vaiko stated, “Even if I die, I will never change my mind,” reflecting his deep-rooted conviction and determination. He pleaded with the attendees not to undermine the self-respect and integrity of the MDMK, emphasizing the party’s dedication to the alliance’s success despite being a smaller entity.
