DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakant took a sharp jab at Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK government and its scion, Udhayanidhi Stalin, during a press interaction on Sunday. Speaking after unveiling a statue of her husband, actor-politician Vijayakant, at the DMDK headquarters in Koyambedu, Premalatha questioned the necessity of holding a Formula 4 (F4) streetcar race in Chennai.
Premalatha argued that the race, scheduled to take place in the heart of the city, was unnecessary, especially considering the state of the roads across Tamil Nadu. “It is unnecessary to hold a car race in Chennai. Not just in Chennai. All the roads in Tamil Nadu are in the worst condition. The state government and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin should consider whether it is necessary to conduct Formula 4 car races on Chennaiās roads, which are being used by the public. They must consider improving all the roads in Tamil Nadu,” she said.
In response to a question about Chief Minister M.K. Stalinās upcoming trip to the United States, Premalatha expressed skepticism about its purpose. She stated that while attracting foreign investments would be welcome, the real reason behind Stalinās visit was something “everyone knows,” implying there might be ulterior motives.
Premalatha also voiced her concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. She pointed out that there is a growing lack of safety for women and political leaders in the state. Specifically, she criticized the withdrawal of police security from Vijayakantās residence without prior notice and emphasized that it is the governmentās duty to ensure the safety of women political leaders.
Addressing actor Vijay’s recent launch of his party’s flag and anthem, Premalatha acknowledged his entry into politics but noted that he still has a long journey ahead. “Vijay has introduced his party flag. He has a long way to go. I wish him all the best,” she said.
Premalatha also announced that the DMDK would contest the upcoming Local Body elections as part of the AIADMK-led alliance.
Her remarks signal a continuation of the DMDKās critical stance against the DMK government, highlighting ongoing concerns about governance, infrastructure, and public safety in Tamil Nadu.
