Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of alcohol prohibition, stating that it is a sensitive and emotional subject. To underscore the urgency of this issue, the VCK will hold a conference on October 2 in Kallakurichi.Speaking on the matter, Thirumavalavan stressed that this conference should not be viewed as just another routine event. He noted that while all political parties in India claim to support prohibition and oppose the sale of alcohol, they also take measures to ensure that alcohol sales and consumption continue unchecked.
āThere is no political party that can openly say, ‘What is wrong with alcohol or liquor shops?’ Every party agrees that we do not need alcohol, drugs, or intoxicating substances and that prohibition is necessary. However, despite this consensus, liquor shops remain open across the country, and alcohol manufacturing units are operational,ā he remarked.
Thirumavalavan questioned the contradiction, pointing out that although all parties publicly support prohibition, liquor shops continue to operate. He added that if all political forces united with a firm resolution, the closure of liquor shops could be achieved in a single day.
The October 2 conference is expected to shed light on these concerns and further the call for immediate action on alcohol prohibition in Tamil Nadu and across the country.
