Mobile phone charging points in train coaches will be disabled during night hours as a precautionary measure, according to railway officials.
Following directives from the Railway Board, power supply to mobile charging points in train coaches is disconnected between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM to prevent fire hazards. This safety measure has been in place for several years.
However, passengers have recently reported non-functional charging points during regular hours, raising complaints through railway helplines and apps.
Addressing these concerns, railway officials clarified, “As per instructions issued by the Railway Safety Commissioner in 2014, power supply to charging points is deliberately cut off during specified night hours to enhance safety. This precautionary step aims to mitigate potential fire risks during train journeys.”

The railway authorities continue to monitor and ensure the availability of charging facilities during non-restricted hours.
