The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu due to a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal. An upper air cyclonic circulation in the northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a low-pressure system by Tuesday. The weather office said it may grow stronger and move northwest, affecting weather patterns in the State.
Because of this, Nilgiris and ghat areas of Coimbatore have already seen heavy rain, with several incidents like tree falls and mudslides. Rescue teams are working continuously in these regions.
Heavy rain is expected in Theni and Tenkasi districts too. Light to moderate rain may fall in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until Sunday, said the RMC.
