Chennai, June 24: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today chaired the inaugural high‑level meeting of the Thooimai Mission, Tamil Nadu’s ambitious statewide waste‑management and recycling initiative. The mission, announced by Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin on World Environment Day, aims to radically overhaul how waste is handled across government offices, institutions, and public spaces .

At the first meeting, the CM underscored the importance of teamwork between state bodies and district officials. He tasked the Clean Tamil Nadu Company Ltd (CTCL)—the mission’s operational nucleus—with leading the effort. Plans involve extending the scheme beyond government offices to schools, hospitals, and panchayats within the next 10 days

On Day 1 alone, officials reported collecting a notable 300 tonnes of waste from 1,100 state offices

CM Stalin urged both officials and citizens to embrace the cause, calling for a cultural shift from waste disposal to sustainable resource recovery and recycling. He emphasised that Thooimai Mission, which features a state‑level governing body headed by him and deputy leadership by Udhayanidhi Stalin, marks a pivotal step toward cleaner, greener Tamil Nadu
