A political rift has emerged between Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and DMK MP Kanimozhi. The conflict was sparked by a statement from the Governor on Independence Day, in which he claimed that sexual crimes against women and children were increasing in Tamil Nadu.
In a strong response on the social media platform X, Kanimozhi challenged the Governor’s accusations, presenting data from the National Crime Records Bureau’s 2022 report. She pointed out that the top three states for crimes against women—Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan—are all governed by the BJP. Kanimozhi highlighted that Tamil Nadu is not even in the top ten on this list.
She questioned the Governor’s motives, suggesting he was acting more like a political leader than a constitutional head of state. Her statement culminated in a direct question to the Governor, asking what hatred he has for the Tamils that would lead him to make such unfounded accusations.
