At the opening of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping criticised “bullying” in global politics and called for a fairer international order. He urged member nations to support multilateralism and work together.
Xi highlighted the SCO’s growing influence, noting that member economies are close to a combined USD 30 trillion. He said China has invested over USD 84 billion in SCO countries. He also called for the quick creation of an SCO Development Bank and a new security centre to tackle regional challenges.
Xi announced 100 small-scale projects to improve livelihoods in SCO nations. He stressed that all members are “friends and partners” and should respect differences, communicate more, and stay united. Joint cooperation, he said, will help all cultures “grow in harmony and prosperity.”
