Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan (CPR), a seasoned BJP leader, has been elected as the 15th Vice-President of India, marking another milestone in his long and distinguished political career. With decades of experience in public service and party leadership, Radhakrishnan has held several key positions, including Tamil Nadu BJP President, two-time Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore, and Union Minister. His election reflects his deep-rooted connections with the party, as well as his enduring popularity and political acumen.
Radhakrishnan’s career has been defined by dedication and outreach. From his early days in the RSS and Jan Sangh at the age of 16, to leading a 93-day rath yatra across Tamil Nadu advocating river linkages, anti-terrorism campaigns, and social reforms, he has consistently worked to bring attention to national and social issues. His tenure as BJP Tamil Nadu president and multiple terms as Lok Sabha member came at crucial periods, including the aftermath of the 1998 Coimbatore bombings, showcasing his resilience and leadership in challenging times.
In recent years, Radhakrishnan has served as the Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana (Additional Charge), Puducherry (Additional Charge), and Maharashtra, gaining valuable administrative experience at the state level. His appointment as Vice-President now positions him to contribute significantly to India’s parliamentary system and governance. Known for his organizational skills, principled approach, and commitment to public service, CP Radhakrishnan’s rise to the Vice-Presidency marks a continuation of his lifelong dedication to India’s political and social progress.
