Colombo, Oct 16: England avoided a big upset after their Women’s World Cup match against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain on Wednesday. The game, held at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, was stopped just when Pakistan was close to earning their first-ever ODI win over England.
It was Pakistan’s 16th meeting with England since 1997, and they came the closest this time to breaking their losing streak. However, heavy rain ended their hopes and the match could not continue.
With the washout, Pakistan earned their first point of the tournament but remain at the bottom of the table with a net run rate of -1.887.
