The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will pay special tribute to its founder M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) on his 109th birth anniversary on January 17, party leaders announced on Tuesday.
According to an official statement, AIADMK general secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, will lead the commemorative event at 10.30 a.m. at the MGR statue located in the party headquarters complex on Avvai Shanmugam Road, Royapettah, Chennai. He will offer a garland, lay floral tributes, hoist the party flag and distribute sweets as part of the programme.
Following Palaniswami’s tribute, senior party officials and office-bearers are expected to pay homage to the late leader. Party units have also been urged to remember MGR by offering floral tributes and garlanding his portraits and statues in other states where AIADMK has a presence, including Puducherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi and the Andaman Islands.
MGR, a beloved film star-turned-politician and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has left a lasting influence on the state’s political and cultural landscape, and his birth anniversary continues to be observed with respect by party workers and supporters.
