With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Maduranthakam today for a major political rally, authorities have announced extensive traffic diversions on the Chennai-Tiruchy National Highway (GST Road) to manage movement and ensure security.Police have advised motorists to avoid using the highway between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and follow alternative routes due to expected congestion from the Prime Minister’s convoy and large crowds attending the event. Vehicles heading towards Tindivanam from Chennai will be diverted near Vandalur Zoo via Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road, the East Coast Road (ECR) and Marakkanam before rejoining the national highway.
Other suggested detours include using the Vandalur-Padappai Road via Oragadam, Walajabad and Kancheepuram to reach Kooteripattu, or travelling from Guduvancherry and Singaperumal Koil through Chengalpattu, Tirukazhukundram, ECR and Marakkanam to access the GST Road. Vehicles from Villupuram towards Chennai will also be rerouted via Tindivanam and the Pondicherry Junction Road, with traffic police urging travellers to plan their journeys accordingly and comply with the diversions.
Security has been intensified for the event, with a five-tier arrangement and deployment of thousands of police personnel across the region.
Motorists are urged to follow traffic advisories to avoid delays and reach their destinations safely during the Prime Minister’s visit.
