Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), General Secretary of the AIADMK, has strongly condemned a violent attack on party volunteers in Coimbatore (Kovai), calling the incident “shocking and deplorable.” The attack, which occurred in the Singanallur area near Ondipudur Ward No. 56, has ignited political criticism of the state government and raised concerns about law and order. According to EPS, a group of five individuals armed with machetes and knives allegedly attacked the party’s ward secretary, Sureshkumar, and other members outside the party office on the night of February 9. The volunteers were reportedly on duty when the assailants struck, injuring Sureshkumar, the AIADMK district joint secretary Eesa D. Senthil, and several residents who attempted to intervene. EPS slammed the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, accusing it of failing to maintain public safety and contributing to an environment where such attacks could occur. He urged authorities to take strict legal action against all those involved and insisted that the state must ensure the protection of political workers and citizens alike. The AIADMK leader’s statement reflects broader political tensions in the state as parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with law and order emerging as a key point of contention.
