Chennai, May 25:
The Tamil Nadu government has issued comprehensive guidelines to temple authorities to ensure quality standards in basic facilities provided to devotees across the State.
During inspections at various temples, it was found that the quality of purified drinking water supplied through RO systems did not meet prescribed standards. Specifically, the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels were not maintained within permissible limits. Officials have been instructed to immediately rectify the issue and ensure continuous monitoring of water quality.
The government has also laid emphasis on sanitation facilities. Toilets used by devotees must be cleaned thoroughly at least three to five times a day. To ensure accountability, authorities have been directed to display a “Daily Cleaning Checklist” at the entrance of each restroom, with staff required to record and sign off on each cleaning activity.
In addition, authorities have been instructed that all prasadams distributed or sold in temples must carry clear labels indicating the date of manufacture and expiry, ensuring food safety and transparency for devotees.
Further, the government warned that any deficiencies or irregularities in basic amenities or in the sale of food items within temple premises would invite strict action.
Reaffirming its commitment, the government led by C Joseph Vijay stated that ensuring clean, safe, and quality facilities for devotees remains a top priority across all temples in Tamil Nadu.
