Chennai, June 5:

Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday wrote to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, urging his immediate intervention to prevent 152 vacant super-speciality medical seats in Tamil Nadu from being surrendered to the All India Quota.

In his letter, Udhayanidhi alleged that the situation arose due to the failure of the ruling TVK government to present proper arguments before the Supreme Court. He referred to the apex court’s May 29 order directing that the vacant seats be transferred to the national pool.

Explaining the background, he said the case originated from a petition filed by an individual, Tamilvani, seeking the inclusion of these seats under the All India Quota. During hearings held on May 25 and 29, he claimed that the State’s counsel failed to effectively argue the case.

Highlighting the potential long-term impact, Udhayanidhi warned that surrendering these seats would severely affect the career progression of in-service doctors in Tamil Nadu.

He urged the Chief Minister to take urgent steps to correct the legal approach, halt the transfer of seats, and ensure that government doctors in the State continue to have access to super-speciality courses.
