Defending champions Argentina national football team pulled off a dramatic late comeback to defeat Egypt national football team 3-2 in a thrilling Round of 16 clash at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Egypt looked set for a famous upset after racing to a 2-0 lead through goals from Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Zico, leaving Argentina on the brink of elimination with just minutes remaining.
However, Lionel Messi sparked an incredible turnaround. Cristian Romero headed in from a Messi assist in the 79th minute to ignite hope. Just four minutes later, Messi produced a stunning volley to level the score at 2-2, marking his eighth goal of the tournament.
With extra time looming, Enzo Fernández completed the comeback with a dramatic stoppage-time winner, sealing a famous victory for Argentina.
