After months of anticipation and delays, Jana Nayagan—the much-awaited swansong of C. Joseph Vijay—has finally hit theatres worldwide today, opening to unprecedented fanfare and celebration.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions, the film overcame nearly six months of delay due to censorship hurdles before receiving clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification with an ‘A’ certificate. With a runtime of 183 minutes, the film blends intense emotion with strong political drama.
Adding to the intrigue, Vijay is referred to as the “Honourable Chief Minister” in promotional materials—mirroring his real-life political trajectory and heightening the film’s emotional resonance among fans.
The film has released in over 30 countries, with more than 900 screens across Tamil Nadu and over 4,000 screens globally—making it one of the largest releases ever for a Tamil film. Trade analysts had predicted a record-breaking opening, with advance bookings selling out in several regions.
Across Tamil Nadu, theatres have transformed into celebration hubs as fans and cadres of Vijay’s political movement marked the release with grand festivities. Massive cutouts, colorful banners, drum processions, and fireworks were seen outside cinema halls from early morning.
