Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has urged the Indian batting unit to adopt a proactive approach against Sri Lanka’s spin attack ahead of the upcoming two-Test series starting August 15.
Emphasising the importance of the first innings, Rahane said batters must have a clear plan and avoid being overly defensive on spin-friendly wickets in Sri Lanka. “You cannot be too defensive. Being on top of the bowler is very important,” he said.
India, currently fifth in the World Test Championship standings, need a strong run to stay in contention for the final, with seven wins required from their remaining matches.
While India have enjoyed success in Sri Lanka in the past, their recent struggles against spin — including home series losses to New Zealand and South Africa — remain a concern.
