Chennai, Sept 23:
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted surprise inspections at 36 government offices across Tamil Nadu and detected unaccounted cash and suspicious digital transactions worth Rs 1.73 crore.
The inspections were carried out on September 22 at offices including corporations, municipalities, the Water Supply and Drainage Board, taluk offices and Block Development Officer offices. According to reports, the total amount detected was Rs 1,73,48,666.
The amount included Rs 13.78 lakh in unaccounted cash and Rs 1.59 crore in suspected GPay transactions. The digital transactions are being examined by the vigilance authorities as part of their inquiry.
The latest operation comes amid a continuing DVAC enforcement drive across government offices. In August, the agency reported detecting more than Rs 1.21 crore in unaccounted cash and digital transactions during surprise inspections, besides conducting 19 trap operations against government personnel accused of demanding and accepting bribes.
The authorities are examining the cash and digital transaction records detected during the latest inspections and further action will depend on the findings of the investigations.
