Chennai, Oct 26:
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested three men, including a technology professional and the son of a junior artiste, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine in Virugambakkam. Police seized a total of seven grams of the synthetic drug from the three accused.
The arrested men were identified as Koushik, 31, of Ekkaduthangal; Abinesh, 33, of Saligramam; and Chandrasekar, 29, of Purasawalkam. Koushik’s father, Ganapathy, works as a junior artiste in the film industry, while Chandrasekar was employed at an IT firm on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
According to police, the ANTF intercepted Koushik and recovered three grams of methamphetamine from him. During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that he had been purchasing the drug from Abinesh, whom he had met through a friend in the film industry.
Acting on the information, the police traced Abinesh to Saligramam and seized one gram of methamphetamine from him. Investigators subsequently arrested Chandrasekar and recovered another three grams from him, taking the total seizure to seven grams.
Police said Abinesh had previously been booked in a narcotics case in 2024. The three accused were handed over to the Virugambakkam police for further investigation and were subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
Investigators are now trying to establish the source of the drugs and determine whether other people were involved in supplying methamphetamine to the accused. The police are also examining possible links in the supply chain as part of the continuing investigation.
