Chennai, Oct 28:
Greater Chennai Corporation officials have stepped up inspections of monsoon preparedness works across the city as the northeast monsoon brings rain to Chennai and its surrounding areas.
Deputy commissioners and other senior officials are inspecting rainwater drains, desilting works and other flood-prevention measures to ensure that rainwater can flow out quickly. The inspections are aimed at identifying incomplete works and addressing potential waterlogging in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
The Corporation has been undertaking precautionary measures, including cleaning stormwater drains, removing accumulated silt and monitoring locations that have experienced flooding during previous monsoons. Officials are also expected to assess the readiness of civic infrastructure and coordinate with field-level staff to respond to complaints.
With further rainfall expected during the monsoon season, the focus is on completing pending works, ensuring that drains remain free of blockages and responding promptly to waterlogging. The inspections are part of the city’s broader efforts to minimise disruption to residents and protect low-lying areas.
