New Delhi, Oct 28:
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has upgraded the International Cricket Council (ICC) from Tier 2 to Tier 1 in its compliance framework, following cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The revised classification will come into effect on January 1, 2027, bringing the ICC under stricter anti-doping compliance requirements. These include tighter deadlines for addressing testing, results management and therapeutic use exemption procedures.
Meanwhile, India remains in WADA’s highest scrutiny tier alongside countries such as China and the United States. The classification considers countries’ size and performance at major international competitions, including the Olympics and World Championships.
WADA said its tier-based system aims to ensure effective monitoring and direct resources towards areas where the risk and impact of doping are considered highest.
