NEW DELHI:
The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to address concerns arising from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi and devise ways to contact around 47 lakh voters whose names were deleted.
The court’s intervention comes amid concerns over the deletion of names and the need to ensure that eligible voters are not excluded from the electoral process. It asked the poll panel to examine ways of reaching affected voters and addressing their grievances.
The development highlights the importance of balancing the verification of electoral rolls with safeguards to ensure that eligible citizens retain their right to vote. The Election Commission’s response is expected to be crucial in resolving concerns surrounding the revision exercise.
