Chennai, Nov 5:
A special court remanded former Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi to judicial custody until November 6 in connection with an alleged Rs 100-crore corruption and bribery case involving private educational institution approvals.
Following the completion of his police custody interrogation, Mahesh was produced before the special court after undergoing mandatory medical examinations. During the court hearing, the judge inquired into his well-being, asking whether he had been subjected to any physical harassment during interrogation and if proper food and clothing were provided. Mahesh confirmed to the court that police had not tortured him and that essentials had been supplied properly, after which the police submitted his medical evaluation reports.
Directing that Mahesh be lodged in Puzhal Central Prison until November 6, the court permitted him to speak with his advocates for 10 minutes prior to transit. The court also ordered the police to submit their reply counter-affidavit to his pending bail petition by Thursday morning, acceding to the defence counsel’s plea for early filing to facilitate arguments.
