Mumbai, Nov 6:
State-owned Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Thursday reported a 20.12% year-on-year rise in standalone net profit to Rs 12,076 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026, driven by robust expansion in premium collections and underwriting performance.
The country’s largest life insurer recorded a 16.2% growth in net premium income to Rs 1.47 trillion during the quarter, compared to Rs 1.26 trillion in the year-ago period. Value of new business (VNB) expanded 17.14% to Rs 3,710 crore, lifting the VNB margin to 21.82% from 19.33%. Annualised premium equivalent (APE) grew 3.8% to Rs 17,004 crore, while total assets under management (AUM) reached Rs 59.60 trillion, up 4.16% year-on-year.
Highlighting the insurer’s product transition, R. Doraiswamy, MD and CEO, LIC, said: âWe launched a new pure-term insurance product in September, which has received a strong response. In the last few days of September alone, we sold over 58,000 policies under the newly introduced plan. Going forward, our key focus areas will be pure-term protection products, non-par savings products and the annuity business. ULIPs could recover if market sentiment improves, but our immediate priority remains savings and protection.â
