Chennai, Nov 6:

Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre (DMDSC) and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), in partnership with the Hinduja Foundation, honoured individuals managing type 2 diabetes for over 50 years and felicitated students with type 1 diabetes for academic achievements at an event held in Gopalapuram.

Organised ahead of World Diabetes Day on November 14, the ceremony featured the presentation of the Dr. V. Mohan Diabetes Golden Jubilee Medal for Conquering Diabetes and the Hinduja Foundation T1D Academic Excellence Awards. The awards recognized the discipline and resilience required for long-term health management, while encouraging young achievers coping with juvenile diabetes.

Speaking at the event, Dr. V. Mohan, Chairman of DMDSC and MDRF, said: “Living with type 2 diabetes for more than 50 years and continuing to manage the condition is a remarkable achievement. It reflects years of commitment, discipline and perseverance in looking after one’s health. Through the Dr. V. Mohan Diabetes Golden Jubilee Awards, we aim to recognise these individuals and celebrate their journeys. Their experiences demonstrate the importance of appropriate treatment, regular monitoring and consistent diabetes management, while offering hope and inspiration to others living with the condition”. Dr. Ashish Mendhi, Programme Director of the Hinduja Foundation, stressed the importance of institutional encouragement and care in empowering children with Type 1 diabetes.
