Chennai: After two weeks of intense investigation which met many dead-ends, the city police have finally cracked the case of the dismembered body of a woman found at Pallikaranai dumpyard by arresting her husband.
The victim has been identified as Sandhya (35), a resident of Jafferkhanpet, a small-time actress and a native of Thoothukudi.
According to the police, Balakrishnan, her husband who worked in the film industry as assistant director, brutally murdered her.
Three special teams led by Deputy Commissioner Muthusamy cracked the case with the help of missing persons’ list. The couple has two children.
“Sandhya worked as a junior artiste in Tamil films. She had a love marriage with Balakrishnan. He had produced a movie in 2010 which failed at the box-office. The couple had serious difference of opinion between them and had already filed for divorce. He murdered her, severed her body parts and left them in various places to confuse the police,” sources said.
Balakrishnan lived in a rented house in Gandhi Street, Jafferkhanpet, for the past one year. Sandhya came here on 15 January for Pongal even as they had a lot of issues between them, sources said. The murder took place as Balakrishnan suspected her of infidelity, it is said.
It may be noted that on 21 January, police found a right hand severed from the shoulder and two legs from under the knees at the dumpyard. Police concluded that they were the limbs of a woman since the severed hand had a bangle. A dragon and Siva Parvathi image were tattooed on the hand.
“Balakrishnan first murdered her, cut her body into several pieces and dumped some parts at a garbage bin at Power House. Along with the garbage, they were taken to dumpyard,” sources said.
The dismembered parts were sent to the Chrompet Government Hospital. Forensic Science experts said that the victim was killed on 20 January night at 10 pm and body parts were disposed at 5 am the following day.
Now that the mystery has been revealed, Pallikaranai police are conducting further inquiries with Balakrishnan to find the rest of the body parts.
