Chennai: Though BJP president Amit Shah has cancelled his visit to Chennai to seal the alliance with the AIADMK for the 2019 general elections, the party’s Tamilnadu in-charge and Union Minister Piyush Goyal would be arriving here as scheduled.
Piyush Goyal was earlier in Chennai 14 February to do the preliminary work for the tie-up. He had a long session with ministers S P Velumani and Thangamani. But as the matter could not be finalised then, it was said BJP president Amit Shah would be arriving in Chennai today to complete the mission.
Reports this morning said Amit Shah had changed his mind and had left for New Delhi from Mumbai after sealing a poll pact with the Shiv Sena for Maharashtra.
Nevertheless, Piyush Goyal would keep his appointment with the AIADMK leaders this afternoon and is landing in Chennai at 12.15 pm.
The AIADMK is already holding talks with the PMK, another alliance partner, from this morning at a private hotel in Chennai.
