Dr Baala Ramani (61), a longtime resident of Thirumangalam, Anna Nagar West Extension, was presented Kalaimamani award for the year 2013. The highest award being given by Government of Tamilnadu, was presented to Baala Ramani by the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami recently at a function.

Residents of Shenoy Nagar organised a protest against Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) 10 August for not restoring Thiru Vi Ka Park. Around 250 residents of the locality came to Pulla Avenue, Shenoy Nagar, near the park and participated in the agitation.
