Cash for votes: Nainar Nagendran summoned again by police


The Tamil Nadu police have again issued summons to Tirunelveli Lok Sabha constituency candidate Nainar Nagendran of the Bharatiya Janata Party in connection with an alleged cash-for-vote scam today.
Similar summon was issued last week and Nainar asked for ten-days time to appear citing health reasons.
It may be recalled that a few days before Lok Sabha polls, acting on a tip-off about the cash being carried in the two-tier AC coach of Chennai-Tirunelveli Nellai Superfast Express, an election commission flying squad, along with Tambaram police, nabbed Satish and S Naveen of Agaram in Chennai and S Perumal of Srivaikundam of Tuticorin district on April 6.
During inquiry, Satish, said he was an employee of a hotel owned by Nainar Nagendran in Chennai and claimed that the money was meant for distribution to voters in Tirunelveli Lok Sabha constituency, police said.
The Income Tax officials were alerted about the incident to investigate further the source of the money.
