Huge haul of cocaine at Chennai airport

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, authorities at Chennai Airport have seized a staggering 3.5 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of around Rs 35 cr. This seizure marks the second such incident in just two days, following the interception of Rs 28 cr worth of pure cocaine weighing one kilogram on Wednesday.

The disparity in the value of the confiscated cocaine is attributed to variations in the quality of the narcotics found in the two separate consignments. Investigators believe these seizures represent only a fraction of the illicit drug trade infiltrating the region.

The contraband, smuggled from Cambodia via Malaysia, was ingeniously concealed within a parcel. Suspicion arose when a passenger arriving from Malaysia aroused the scrutiny of vigilant authorities. A meticulous search of the passenger’s belongings unearthed the hidden cache of cocaine, prompting immediate detention and interrogation.

The detained individual, believed to be a key player in an expansive international drug smuggling syndicate, is currently undergoing intensive questioning. Authorities are diligently probing the intricate network behind this brazen smuggling operation, aiming to identify the intended recipient of the illicit cargo and unravel the masterminds orchestrating the illicit trade.
