Chennai: The city police have busted an online racket involving youngsters from Uttar Pradesh which was selling international drug tablets and powders to customers here.
According to police sources, two months ago a man was admitted to a hospital and doctors found that he had been consuming excessive amount of foreign drugs. A police inquiry into the case revealed that the man had purchased them online.
Subsequently, a police team led by Inspector Christin Jayasil posed as customers and ordered for drugs on the website.
A caller claiming to be a drug dealer responded to the order placed, asking if they wanted foreign drug tablets or powders and also fixed the date and time of the delivery.
The peddler, not knowing it was a trap laid by the police, came near Thiruvanmiyur bus depot with the consignments where he was caught.
He was identified as Nikhil Tiwari (32), a native of Uttarpradesh who had been residing at Valmiki Nagar for the past five months. A computer engineer, he took to drug peddling due to unemployment.
Police raided his residence and confiscated drugs worth Rs five lakh. The banned harmful drugs, police say, give a kick for hours, and will have adverse effect on consumers’ health.
