Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has refuted the charge of the Kerala government that Tamilnadu was responsible for the unprecedented flooding in their State.
Kerala had informed the Supreme Court Thursday that sudden release of water from the Mullaiperiyar dam, the third largest reservoir in the Periyar river basin, forced the State to release water from the downstream Idukki reservoir which led to devastating floods.
Denying that this was the cause for the flooding in Kerala, Tamilnadu Chief Minister Palaniswami said the actual reason was the discharge of excess water from all the dams of Kerala.
Palaniswami said this while speaking to mediapersons at Tiruchi Mukkombu, after inspecting the broken regulator shutters there this morning.
The case of reducing the storage level in Mullaiperiyar dam is coming up today in the Supreme Court.
