Chennai: Rotary Club of Chennai Towers (RCCT) as part of its continuing activities in the area of community services and health services has set up a 10 bed free dialysis facility to help the economically challenged at the Greater Chennai Corporation’s Urban Primary Health Centre, Retteri.
According to a press release, RCCT and Greater Chennai Corporation have supported the project by funding the complete infrastructure. This unit will be managed and run by TANKER Foundation.
Inaugurating the new facility on Monday, Greater Chennai Corporation Deputy Commissioner (Health) P Madhusudhan Reddy said, the civic body is happy to be tying up with RCCT and TANKER Foundation to offer free dialysis for the needy.
He also said that they were going to open similar dialysis centres in Valasaravakkam, Thiruvotriyur and Perungudi.
Speaking on the occasion, TANKER Foundation trustee Dr Georgi Abraham emphasised the need for dialysis units as more and more people were getting into renal failure.
TANKER Foundation has provided 2,52,798 free and subsidised dialysis for 1,293 patients, and also given financial support of Rs 161 lakh to 2,964 patients.
TANKER Foundation is running six dialysis centres with 76 machines. This will be the seventh centre, said its managing trustee Latha Kumaraswami.
Gopal of Rotary Club of Chennai Towers said that they had raised over Rs 1 crore towards the centre for all equipment including dialysis machines, lift, RO plant, generator, air conditioners and cots. Rotarian Srinivasan was also present.
