Chennai: Awailing water and sewage connections have been one of the most basic problems for Ambattur residents, in the city for they had to head to the head office everytime there is an issue that needs to be sorted.

But this time around, the officials came down to the area, for the residents to avail water and sewer connections, much to the surprise of many.

This took place based on the request of the residents of Ambattur for ease of registering applications for availing water and sewer connections in their area as against the centralised registration centre at head office.

The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) organised a special camp on 27 September at Depot 82 off Area VII at Pillaiyar Koil Street, Kallikuppam, Ambattur, to get the applications registered for availing connections in Depot 79, 80, 81, 82 and 85 in Area VII.

According to a press note, 55 applications were registered during the camp and CMWSSB, Executive Director, T Prabhushankar, I A S, monitored the registration process.

Necessary arrangements were made to facilitate the public to fill up the applications for registration and to collect the relevant payment for the connecting charges at the camp itself, it added.

When asked about the camp, a resident of West Balaji Nagar, said,”It is not enough, what the officials did. They came by noon and wrapped up the registration within four hours.

The bank official whom they brought with them wanted to leave early owing to certain reasons, leading to confusions. This is a good initiative but had it been widely publicised, people would benefit even more.”

Sources have stated that another similar camp will be conducted on 27 October between 10 am and 3 pm at Thiruvengadam Nagar, Ambattur, Depot 81, Area VII.

Officials requested the public to cooperate with CMWSSB in getting their water / sewer connections at the earliest for maintaining a healthy environment.
