Chennai: State Forest Minister Dindigul C Srinivasan has said one more Tiger Conservation Centre may be set up in Tamilnadu to boost the population of the big cats.
It may be noted that there are already four conservation centres in Tamilnadu.
Speaking at the valedictory function of the Wildlife Week Celebrations held at Nanmangalam on Monday, the Minister said Tamilnadu stands second among all States in the country in terms of conservation activities.
He also announced allocation of Rs 21 crore to improve facilities at Guindy, Vandalur, Vellore, Amirthi, Kurumbapatti and Salem reserve forests areas. An additional Rs 18 crore has been allocated for the maintenance of the tiger reserves in Anaimalai, Kalakadu Mundanthurai, Mudumalai and Sathyamangalam, he added.
He further said the veterinary hospitals in Erode, Krishnagiri and Tirunelveli have been equipped with all modern facilities to treat the animals.
Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, Rural Minister P Benjamin were present with officials from the forest department.
