Chennai: The removal of DMK Rajya Sabha MP TKS Elangovan as the party’s spokesperson has become a hot topic for debate on and off social media.
While there was no official explanation given for the relieving of the senior partyman, sources close to the DMK said that this was not a sudden decision and was taken after a series of incidents.
The popular notion at present is that Elangovan’s recent interview to a TV channel about the party’s plan for the function to unveil DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi’s is said to be the reason behind his removal.
However, sources said that the high command was not happy with his public speeches made recently. Elangovan jumped the gun even before the party could take a decision about the event and spoke about inviting Sonia Gandhi.
Sources close to the party said during a recent meeting which was held to finalise the list of spokespersons for DMK, the members were asked not to voice their own opinion without proper communication with the high command. However, Elangovan did not oblige to it during the recent interview.
It is said Stalin was not happy with Elangovan earlier as well as the latter had spoken about rebel DMK leader M K Alagiri during a party meeting held in Madurai recently. Similarly, a few days ago Elangovan contradicted a statement made by Stalin regarding the postponement of Thiruparankundram byelection, this also ruffled a few feathers in the party.
Meanwhile, Elangovan’s removal from the party post has been received with mixed emotions. A few support Stalin’s move saying that this will ensure that the party remains disciplined under his control. However, others say that this will lead to adverse effects as such things happen only in AIADMK.
