Chennai: The 47th founding day of the ruling AIADMK was celebrated in a grand manner at the party headquarters at Royapettah here today.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who are the joint coordinator and coordinator of the party, respectively, were given a warm welcome by the cadres who were gathered in large numbers throughout the stretch leading to the party office.

The party chiefs along with senior Ministers garlanded the statue of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Celebrations were held by the party members across the State during which several competitions were held and prizes were given.

The party was started by MGR on 17 October 1972 after he split from the DMK. After his demise, the party was under the leadership of Jayalalithaa for 30 years and is now led by EPS and OPS.

In a joint letter yesterday, they insisted on the importance of maintaining unity in the party and protecting it at all cost.
