Chennai: Three men and a juvenile have been arrested in connection with the mobile phone snatching incident at Majestic Colony Main Road at Valsaravakkam recently.
The incident had sent shock waves in the neighbourhood as a gang of four had targeted a 66-year-old man.
Jayapandian, a resident of Nerkundram was selling jaggery to families in the locality. Two of them on a two-wheleer approached him on the pretext of finding an address and snatched his mobile phone worth Rs 15,000 from his pocket. When they began to flee, Jayapandian held one of the accused and he was dragged for few meters until he lost grip.
Speaking to News Today, Jaya Raj, son of Jayapandian said, “My father was shocked when they pulled the phone from his pocket. He held one of the accused, but lost grip and fell down. He sustained injuries on his head, knees and hands.”
Police zeroed in on the gang after retrieving the CCTV footage from the spot. They were traced using the vehicle number on Tuesday.
Police arrested Sakthivel (17), a resident of Alwarthirunagar, who is pursuing his first year college at a city-based university, Siva (18), a resident of Virugambakkam and he works at Forum Mall and Santhosh (20), a resident of Porur and studying third year at a university here and 16-year-old from Alapakkam, Porur who is in class 12.
Police said they were caught in a case earlier, but were let off with a warning.
