Chennai: From November this year, residents of Madipakkam and the surrounding areas in the city, especially government employees, can enjoy the comfort of a large government-owned guest house for far cheaper fares.
Moreover, what if the lodge is present in the locality itself? Check out the recently-inaugurated Odisha Bhavan in the area right next to a private hospital. This reporter got in touch with its manager Sudhir Kumar Nayak to know more.
Sudhir said, “The guest house belongs to the Home Department of the Government of Odisha. Its foundation stone was laid on 11 May 2012 by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Tamilnadu’s then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. It has taken almost six years for the project to come into fruition. A total investment of Rs 22 crore has gone into it. The building was recently inaugurated by Naveen Patnaik and Tamilnadu Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar. It will be open to public by November this year.”
Speaking about the specifications of the guest house, he said, “It has 21 air conditioned luxury rooms with two large dormitories in addition to regular ones. There is an auditorium with a seating capacity for over 300 people. It has been built on a 5,000 sq ft land. Government officials will be charged only Rs 100 per day for a double bed room and half of that fare for single bed one. Non-government Odias will be charged Rs 1,000 for a double bed room and half of that fare for single bed room. Finally, Non-government and Non-Odias will be charged double the above prices.’
