Former Economic Advisor to Prime Minister of India, S Narayan, Elico India vice-chairperson Vanitha Datla, former Health Secretary R Poornalingam during the launch of the book – ‘The Dravidian Years: Politics and Welfare in Tamilnadu’, held in the city yesterday.

Chennai: Tamilnadu is the best in terms of any statistics, says Government of India, former Health Secretary R Poornalingam.

The recent phase of lack of development is a lull and this will pass soon and industries will come back to the State, he said.

He was answering questions raised by the audience during a ISAS panel discussion held here on the topic – ‘Do welfare policies lead to development? – The Tamilnadu Experience’.

The event was organised by National University of Singapore along with Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS).

The panelists included Elico India vice-chairperson Vanitha Datla and senior journalist N Ravi. The event was moderated by former Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of India, S Narayan.

The panelists said the only way to reduce corruption was to go more digital. “This will not eradicate corruption completely, but will reduce it,” they added.

The event also saw the launch of VISAS publication, ‘The Dravidian Years: Politics and Welfare in Tamilnadu’, authored by Narayan.
