Chennai: The police have carried out a raid in Annai Sathya Bazaar, T Nagar, and seized 700 cellphones that are believed to have been stolen.

According to reports, there were complaints that the 33 shops were selling stolen mobiles. So, the police carried out raids this morning and seized 700 mobiles.

The row of shops in Annai Sathya Bazaar sell everything from foreign electronic goods to local mobiles. In fact, a few years ago, it gave stiff competition to Burma Bazaar in Parry’s Corner selling foreign electronic goods – you name it, you’ve got it.

Now, they are also into servicing and repairing mobile phones.

The police who seized the phones this morning are trying to decode the IMEI numbers of the mobiles that are believed to have been stolen and sold to these shops.
