Chennai: I bet your childhood should have been awesome if you had grown up watching the M.A.D show that was telecast on Pogo.
And who wouldn’t remember its presenter Rob? Yes. And the big news is Rob will be visiting Chennai for an art workshop from 30 November to 2 December. Sony Music India and BookMyShow collaborate to introduce India’s first live art show for kids and families, called Imaginarium.
The show will come up with elements like humour, magic, and foot-stomping music. The show is open for all. News Today interviewed the artist who is thrilled about his visit to the city.
EXCERPTS FROM THE INTERVIEW
Q: This is your first live art show. How do you feel about it?
A: I have been in this field for a long time and even though I encourage children to think differently, everything is restricted to a screen in my shows. I wanted to create a show where is there is no screen or any other barrier. I wanted everything to be live without editing or any re-takes. So, we are here, finally, in city for a live show. It is a one-hour show, but I can assure that the participants will learn many crafts in the given time, easily. Most crafts will be done with recycled materials. The show is more of an interactive kind. The participants will make the crafts along with me.
Q: What are your expectations about your visit to Chennai
A: This is our first show in Chennai. The city has always been supportive of me. I am greatly excited about the show. When my show, M.A.D started in Pogo, we had no Instagram or Facebook or any such connections to know people’s reaction about the programme. We had only phones and mails. We received a lot of mails and TRP was great from Chennai. When we went to promote the show, there was a massive crowd that came to support us. So, personally, I am looking forward to the big day in Chennai.
Q: Can we expect the same ‘big pictures’ that were featured in the M.A.D show?
A: You can expect a lot of big pictures in the event. In fact, even in my television show, everyone liked the ‘big picture’ part.
Q: How is the show going to be?
A: As of now, I am not revealing the theme of the event. I am planning it as a surprise. But I have always encouraged people to reuse and recycle and the same will apply in my show.
Q: Does interest in art vary from time to time among people?
A: People are more interested than before. In those days, people didn’t have much chance to explore, especially in the field of arts and crafts. But now, I think many YouTube and television shows have turned up that provide you a great platform and opportunities. So, definitely, it has picked up. Younger audience should take this up as a career. Right now, I am planning similar shows all over India.
