Chennai: Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) organised a one-day stakeholders’ interactive meet with representatives from shopping malls, hotels and marriage halls at TNPCB auditorium, Guindy, 17 November as part of sensitisation programme on ‘Plastic Pollution-Free Tamilnadu’ and the ban of certain use-and-throw plastics, effective 1 January onwards.
A total of 174 representatives took part in the meeting. TNPCB member-secretary D Sekar delivered the special address briefing the government’s plastic ban, role of the stakeholders in its successful implementation and requested their cooperation for making this historic mission to reach even the last person of the State.
TNPCB joint chief environmental engineer A Thangapandian elaborated on the plastic ban to the stakeholders with a PowerPoint presentation and detailed display of banned plastic items, suitable eco-friendly alternatives, need for proper disposal of waste and reverse vending machine for collection of used plastic bottles and juice cartons.
TNPCB environmental engineer A Samuel Rajkumar proposed the vote of thanks.
