Chennai: The city woke up early today as Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0‘ stormed theaters. With shows scheduled as early as 4 am, it was frantic celebrations in front of cinema halls. Crackers were burst, sweets distributed besides some music and dance.

Huge cut-outs and posters of the superstar welcomed audience. And there was milk abhishekam done as is the norm for any mass hero’s mega release these days. A festive atmosphere prevailed as some enthusiastic fans have been up all night celebrating.

The sci-fi film, written and directed by Shankar is touted to be the country’s most expensive venture shot directly with 3D cameras.

Rajinikanth fans celebrating 2.0’s release at a cinema hall in Chennai.

In ‘2.0‘, Rajinikanth plays the role of a scientist named Vaseegaran and a robot named Chitti. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, will be seen in a negative role after a long time.

Apart from them, the movie also stars Amy Jackson, Adil Hussain and Sudhanshu Pandey in pivotal roles.

At several places, a ‘thiruvizha’ like atmosphere prevailed. At Kasi theatres in Ekkatuthangal, the crew of ‘2.0‘, including Shankar, producer Subaskaran of Lyca besides audiographer Resul Pookutty came to watch the movie this morning.

A die-hard Rajini fan Kanna said, “This was the day we were waiting for. We were bit disappointed with his last couple of outings – ‘Kabali‘ and ‘Kaala‘. Came ‘2.0‘ to enthuse our spirits. Rajinikanth as macho man uttering punchlines with his usual style and swag was a treat to watch.”

Besides special prayers were conducted at several temples and the ardent fans of Rajinikanth offered annadhanams for the movie’s success. Speaking to ‘News Today‘, Franco Selvaraj, who had come all the way from Malayisa to watch the first day first show in Chennai, said, “Nothing like the spirited atmosphere here. Though ‘2.0‘ releases in Malaysia, I have chosen to fly all the way to Chennai to be part of the wild celebrations here. Rajini is back with a bang.”

With the actor announcing his intentions to launch political party a few months ago, all he needed was a film that assures a big opening. Thankfully ‘2.0‘ has made it happen.

FIFTH DIMENSION

* 4D sound that enhances quality of audio with speakers below the seats have been introduced in select screens for ‘2.0‘.

* A theatre in suburb has come up with RGB laser projection that enhances 3D clarity.

* Women and children thronged in large numbers for early morning shows.
